The reasoning behind this is simple. The largest player base is in Squads, so you would naturally be up against the most competition. Mid-season, you could see conqueror point requirements rise as high as 5500. But this is good for Ace because you get a larger potential gain even at Crown level. Winning a Crown level match in squads can net you upwards of 30 points.
However, if you want to shoot for Conqueror, go for Duo or Solo as even at mid-season, there are less than 400 Ace players, meaning that once you get to Ace (4200) and wait a day, you are automatically at Conqueror. However, the climb from Crown to Ace is much more difficult as wins net you 10-20 points and sub-top-10 finishes could even net you point losses!
Survival Over Kills
Many will know by now that the game favors survival over kills. What’s even more “flawed” is that the game seems to take into account the survival time rather than the number of people left. This means you should play conservative at most times and avoid conflict at least up until you have survived long enough to breakeven in points.
This also opens up an interesting tactic – say the following scenario – in the last 3 circles, there were only you and another person left. You know exactly where they are and can make a kill shot. But you are not under threat and he’s got no clue where you are. Do you kill and claim the chicken dinner?
The answer is no. At Crown level, if you kill him immediately, your survival time would be 27 minutes – while you win, you might earn +13 to your rating. Whereas if you had waited till the final circle and then lose the fight, you’re looking 31 minutes survived and +15 points at least. Of course, the best case is to wait for the final circle and kill him which would net you even more points, but you know where I’m coming from.
Conservative at most times
Estimate your points break even time using circle size / number of people left. Let’s say you know if you die 3rd circle in and around 30 people left, you will get +0 points, that’s the time you can start becoming aggressive and gunning for kills.
From my experience, the numbers are as follows:
Diamond breakeven at ~25-30 people left
Crown V to Crown III breakeven at ~15-25 people left
Crown II and above breakeven at ~15 people left
I’m not going to go into too much detail about play style as everyone has different styles, but here are some stuff I do:
Jump at the end of the flight path – Keep track of the number of people on the plane and see if there are certain parts of the flight path where lots of people jumped. Make note of that area and avoid at all cost. You could also get a rough idea of how many people jumped at each quarter of the path (or even less if you can manage). If there’s a quarter where there’s less than 25 people jumping, you know that area is going to be relatively safer.
Always have a vehicle handy up until circle becomes less than 300m. Grass does not render from afar, a vehicle will reveal your location but at least you can get from point A to B quickly rather than having to run across a field.
House hopping. I always look for 2 story houses and drive by them slowly in circles to see if any footsteps appear on your minimap. If there is, leave for another complex. Alternatively charge in hot and stay on the ground floor if you have to. They will either have to jump out or come down eventually. Key here is to be patient and listen to their behavior. If there are more than 1 person above, wait until one jumps and rush the guy up top which then gives you the upper hand.
Don’t be afraid to drive across the map. Make note of the flight path vs the position of the first circle. The point furthest away from the flight path is almost always safer – go there if you want to avoid action.
Know that Ace or Conqueror may not be for you
Most important of all is to know that not everyone is cut out for this – not because you’re not good enough – but because ranking up in high ranks are extremely tedious and at times boring.
If you want to just enjoy the game, don’t even try this because it will zap the fun out of the game. But if your enjoyment is to get to Conqueror, then best of luck!
Play solo or duo for Conqueror; squad for Ace
Play conservative with controlled aggression
Use the flight path and circle position to your advantage
Vehicle & Houses are your friend
Enjoy the game and don’t become its prisoner
