AFK Arena Tier List 1.94 – Fringe Viability (FV):
Heroes might be used once or twice during normal progression, especially when shoehorning, but there are better options almost every time
Orthros: used to be good in Lucretia comps but gets outclassed by Granit, AEzizh, Mishka, even AThane sometimes
Morrow: Could be good in an off meta run where you don’t use the V class heroes, but he’s almost always going to be outclassed by Nemora
Ukyo: Counters frontline Flora (legitimate niche) but there are other options that overall benefit the team more
Skreg: might be used once or twice in a Thoran comp with Pippa to give him 100 energy and serve as a nice Call battery but that’s it, there are usually better options
AFK Arena Tier List 1.94 – Sub Viability (SV)
Heroes can perform well at decent level deficits but they aren’t quite on the level of the top tiers. Some can see very small use in high level KT though. If you’re trying to avoid using the top 5 comps, try these heroes out!
Address the Ainz issue Not a top 5 comp, tough to make him work over Thoran, Lucretia, GB, charm, CC
Albedo, Arthur, and Ezio in SV for that reason; can work in other comps (address that Ezio could have a small niche in CC comps but not enough to call him a definitive niche hero)
Tasi: Banish makes the enemy unable to be hit and can’t be controlled, making her outclassed in that regard by AEzizh. Her ult is really good (5 second stun is never not great) but it is usually outclassed in versatility by Mishka, Granit, potentially even Thesku. She sees use in one or two GB comps at high level so she’s borderline SV, but again I don’t see her being that valuable
Thank u/AngelLestat2 for sharing insight. Showed many underrated heroes that were added to SV, moved up from FV, and one moved to NV
Sonja: legit sub DPS and support hero
Antandra: originally put in FV but seeing her work at 165 with the finesse she had made me reconsider. I think that was close to her limit though so I can’t realistically put her in V
Astar: little piece of crap (I don’t like her) but her shields and damage make her a good sub DPS
Flora: good debuffs and decent damage, could probably see niche use in Thoran cheese but Kelthur is usually better for that
Satrana: frontline mage, decent damage and antiheals, what more could you want tbh
Solise: also does stuff (idk this seemed like the hardest sell because she seems to just be sub dps but whatever)
Isabella: does good damage at lower deficits, slides into a CC sub DPS at slightly higher. Not a bad hero but she’s outclassed by a lot of the upcoming NV heroes to where she would never see use in a GB comp
Thesku: mostly theoretical but I could see his global stun with furniture be used as a sub meta option vs Mishka. If he died while doing the ult then he would absolutely be in NV for Lucretia but whatever
ATalene: Probably does good damage and has shields, but anyone building ATalene is probably playing for the meta and therefore won’t use her in KT so again, theoretical.
ABrutus: Makes lower deficits a joke and is almost good at 175, but doesn’t quite have the required damage output to make a name there. His CC is great though so he might be able to see some use for that alone, and again he’s probably an amazing hero below 165
Anasta: honestly just a worse ABrutus so she undoubtedly fits here
Thali: Thank you to Blacksword for showing me this, she works as a good sub DPS and her ult gives a good buff with furniture, Also being immortal on ult for up to 14 seconds is always good. Frontline mage with good DR, perfect WW target.
Gorvo: pretty much objectively worse than Mishka but his CC and taunts at lower levels makes him worth using. Try combining with E60 Haelus if you have him too, that could be a fun combination.
Desira: really good support in GB tower, but in KT she’s outclassed by a plethora of supports and enablers. Not a bad hero by any means, there’s just not much of a reason to use her over other better options.
Joker: decent sub DPS that already synergizes well with CC heroes. Also provides a not insignificant debuff. Not particularly great overall but he’s not the hardest hero to use
Thane: actually works as a full DPS with the right support until about 140, maybe 150 if the enemy has no heals. Could also see small use as a sub DPS in charm but why do that in double battles when it’s already niche in 5 battles?
Talene: kind of a worse Merlin in KT, but at (much) lower deficits she can do damage as intended so at least she has that. Being a healer is also nice.
Twins: needs to be at these lower levels because Lailah seems to enjoy killing herself, but the unity buff and ult can be really good if they pull it off.
AFK Arena Tier List 1.94 – Niche Viability (NV)
These heroes see legitimate use in high level KT, but they’re either situational general support or are competing with similarly good support heroes in certain top level teams. Very strong, you see pretty much all of these heroes at some point in replays.
Pippa: She’s very close to being a V hero. She sees niche use in Thoran comps to chuck him into the enemies and give him energy from attacking and can see use in GB comps as essentially a second Oden (provided she has 9f and maybe e60, neither of which is something most players have) but between her and Skriath, I decided during the making of the script that Skriath is just a little more useful for reasons I’ll explain later.
Ainz: Funny enough, he’s not used for damage. I was considering putting him in SV but he can work as a huge Call battery in Thoran comps, which does see use in at least one top level replay at around floor 800. That niche can most likely be replicated for other stages so I think that justifies his placement.
Merlin: Great SV hero, but he can also see legitimate use in GB comps for that extra survivability and as a sacrifice against Athalia or other heroes.
AEzizh: Extremely useful as a Flora check and as a lockdown against specific enemies for CC and Lucretia. However, he sees competition with Athalia for both of those roles and he doesn’t do anything other than that. (Athalia also goes in NV for this reason but is slightly worse overall due to needing Lyca and Call against Flora)
Ezizh: energy for Thoran cheese. Probably could see a lot of use in SV comps thanks to the energy cycle comp being decent there but that doesn’t work at high level KT. (thank goodness, I don’t like that comp)
Zaphrael: Kind of a more situational Granit in Lucretia comps, but he can and does see use there as a more immediate CC source. Overall though, Granit is usually better because you can control him and I think his stun is longer. (Granit also goes in NV)
Hodgkin: Pretty good in GB comps for healing, buffs, and debuffs, but his CC is slow to get going which is where he truly becomes great. Sees competition with Ferael and Fane as the CC support.
Nara and Kelthur: does essentially the same role in pulling enemies into Thoran. Kelthur is usually better because he can do some damage too but getting him to die can be surprisingly tricky, while Nara has less of an issue dying and passing energy while often putting enemies in a slightly more favorable position for Thoran.
Ferael: Provides pretty good CC with his terrify and spirits while also giving great debuffs (-haste, -atk rating, -healing). A staple in standard GB comps but somehow still sees competition.
Silas: Great healing while providing an attack buff. Only real issue is that his ult can be slow to get going and is inconsistent with who it targets. Sees legitimate use both in GB comps and Lucretia comps (although not as often).
Framton: sees use in endgame campaign Lucretia and Thoran comps, so while it is theoretical I suspect that this role can be reprised in KT to make him a good hero there too. (Edit: I’ve used him in a Lucretia stage and he did help a lot. He grouped the enemies even closer together so Lucretia could hit everyone, and his own damage output wasn’t bad.
Prince of Persia: A great hero in certain CC comps, but he’s in NV because the two great CC engines don’t require him to work and he’s just less consistent than them. (Queen goes in NV for this reason as well)
Nemora: The definition of a niche hero. She’s usually used as a counter to enemy Zaphrael, but she can be used against other annoying enemies too. She’s not used very often but invaluable when she’s needed. She can sometimes be outclassed by AEzizh, but then she outclasses him in other cases.
Safiya: A great hero to have for 5 pull Lucretia. This often isn’t how Lucretia is used due to DD being as good as it is, but when it needs to be used she’s often a great choice for the comp so Lucretia doesn’t die instantly.
Brutus: Amazing setup hero for a secondary CC comp. He even buffs the damage dealt by Raku, so if Brutus survives then you’re going to have an even easier time with this comp.
Rosaline: Pretty much a staple in charm comps because of her ult and because she deals enough damage to help clean up (get it) when there is only one enemy left. She might be able to be used in AThane comps to give him more ults and damage but this comp isn’t tested enough to be a confident statement, so she belongs in NV.
Scarlet: Again, she is very close to being a V class hero, but considering that she’s a debuff DPS option in GB comps (which have no shortage of debuff DPS options) she has too much competition from overall better heroes to truly be considered that highly. That being said, her debuffs and damage are really good, she’s just a little more niche than heroes like Oden and Daimon.
Raine: She kind of just does it all when it comes to support options. Great damage buffs, energy to your strongest hero, what else could you want in a damage support option? (Mortas could tell you what else you’d want, but he’s a bit further down the line)
AFK Arena Tier List 1.94 – Viable (V)
The (should-be) staples in the KT meta. These heroes can and will regularly perform at high level KT. (These heroes are listed by rank, starting at 1 and ending at 22)
The Big Five: Thoran, Lucretia, Mehira, Grezhul, Kren
Thoran: I hate this comp, but there is no arguing that it gets results. It works against almost anything, with the prime exceptions being Thoran, Ezizh, Ainz (probably) and certain Flora comps.
Lucretia: I used to hate this comp too, but after realizing that it’s not as generally great as Thoran and seeing the strategies required to make it work sometimes, I appreciate this comp a lot more. She’s great for when the opponent is mostly physical enemies, but intel enemies can be dealt with by virtue of AEzizh and Granit.
Mehira: I don’t think charm is quite as good as CC at this power deficit (it’s probably more consistent than those comps past 11x-12x) but the versatility of the comp combined with Mehira being usable outside of charm (sometimes being seen in GB) means she definitely deserves being up here. The standard comp of Rowan, Khazard, Mehira, Rosa, 5th is a simple but effective comp that has versatility based on the 5th hero, often being Zolrath, Lyca, or Raku.
Grezhul: This hero really does it all. His damage is insane, his tanking prowess is unprecedented when given setup with Alna, and the summons make him a good check/counter to PvE Tasi, another hero that gives me nightmares. He even gets to heal himself, which actually matters given his great PR and DR.
Kren: I think that Fane tech makes Kren the better CC hero between him and Raku in KT. While Zolrath, Lyca, Mortas, Fane, 2+ Calls is incredibly expensive from a Campaign standpoint, it’s fine in 701-1000 KT because you only need two comps to win. The end result is one of the best and coolest comps you’ll ever see in this game, and I think his placement here over Raku is justified. Speaking of…
Mortas: Arguably the best buffer in the game. He synergizes greatly with three of the Big Five (Lucretia, Grezhul, Kren, especially Kren) and his ult is extremely fast, often not needing Call to get an ult at about the same time as instant CC Kren. Bonus attack, bonus attack speed, Greed which consists of bonus energy and heals, Mortas ult does it all… provided that it hits the right hero at the right time.
Zolrath: This placement might not suggest it, but I think he is the single best hero to have in your roster. The extra time given to set up your win condition is invaluable, and being able to counter backrow Flora is about the best thing you would want (otherwise you only have RNG Thoran cheese to deal with her). In general, his role in aiding CC and charm makes them much better than they’d be without him, and he can probably find use in just about any comp (except Thoran).
Lyca: Like with Zolrath, she’s an extremely good hero to have, but she’s also good with Thoran. Especially good with him, actually. The haste and energy she provides essentially turns everyone into a decent Call battery, and extra haste means that certain heroes have haste cycle manipulation. Fane is probably the hero that benefits the most from this, but I’m sure that other heroes benefit too.
Alna: She enables Grezhul and sometimes Lucretia. She can also see use in letting Thoran survive. I don’t think I need to justify her placement after that.
Fane: Probably the biggest hot take here, but he’s amazing. Not only can he be used in the Kren comp, but he can work with Khazard and Raku over Mortas and Kren for a different CC comp that works if Kren does not. Outside of dedicated CC comps, Fane can also be used in GB comps instead of whatever 5th you’d normally use, often being more consistent than Ferael, Hodgkin, or even Silas. Ferael is probably better in GB than Fane more often than not, but the fact that there’s competition says something to me. His debuffs are also really strong, his ult can come in clutch, and… just look at him. His mustache alone makes his V placement justified, and everything else justifies his top 10 placement.
Rowan: Coming in just outside of the top 10, Rowan provides amazing general support while acting as an enabler for charm. He can see good use outside of charm which is why he’s this high up, serving as the best single Call battery for Thoran, as support in GB thanks to healing, CC, and energy, and potentially in AThane to make him function (again, not fully tested but it seems necessary). The only reason he isn’t in the top 10 is because I think they are slightly more enabling, versatile, or defining.
Khazard: His support for charm and CC comps is ridiculous, with his SI extending the length of CC and his ult pretty much preventing enemies from winning from outhealing. Very simple hero but he gets the job done!
Mishka: She is a great enabler/CC source in CC comps, probably the best one in terms of general use. While I think a hero coming up is better for the real CC comp, Mishka is probably better for a standard CC comp so she’s up here.
Eironn: His role can’t be replaced by anyone else. He’s a key component in 5 pull comps, Queen comps, and many Thoran comps, and the fact that he can be used without Skriath (while Skriath usually needs Eironn) means that he’s placed significantly higher. He’s more splashable, his own damage is solid in the right comps, and he enables some of the best comps in the game.
Lorsan: If your Thoran comp doesn’t have Lorsan in it, you’re probably using Thoran wrong. Same for Lucretia to a lesser extent. The damage link is an invaluable consistency tool, allowing Thoran to kill two tricky enemies much more consistently or allowing Lucretia to hit two enemies that are placed far from each other before her attack buff expires. Lorsan has one use and one use only, but there is no competition for that role and it is so good that he has to be up here.
Oden: An absolute chad in almost every regard. He’s a staple in GB comps, more so than any other backrow hero in these comps. His consistent damage is amazing, especially for a hero that has his CC and energy debuffs. And in the later phase of a fight, he can win most 1v1 situations because the opponent simply can’t do anything. He’s one of my favorite heroes and has been since day 1 of his release (even before his rework when he was just a mid tier) but I don’t feel like I’m biased when putting him this high. I would put him higher, but I feel like a hero that’s just key in one comp while not being the main reason the comp is good can only be so high.
Daimon: A hero that isn’t just tied to GB. Daimon can also be used in charm, likely as a cleanup unit that doesn’t have to worry about dying, which is pretty great. He can be hard to get going sometimes, but after someone gets a kill on an enemy whose stats are being stolen, Daimon pops off and kills everything else without much fuss.
Haelus: This hero is so fun to use. I know that doesn’t matter for his placement, but I wanted to mention it. He can be put in Lucretia comps to give her a Minecraft, greatly buffing her stats in the process. He can buff Grezhul’s already chonky shield to even greater heights while giving him energy at the same time. In general, he gives great buffs to the teams he’s on and can die while doing so, making him a splashable hero for most comps. I don’t think he can be placed higher than this though because you often don’t need him in Lucretia or sometimes, one of the more niche GB support options is used over him, but the support he brings when he’s used is undeniable.
Leonardo: A staple in standard CC comps, he has a lot going for him: tons of CC (obviously), great damage buffs, very consistent ults leading to permanent stun, a not insignificant amount of damage, and a flee ability that should make WW a great option on him, unfortunately it pretty much never works as intended and Call is often a better option.
AThane: This hero is still pretty experimental because I haven’t been able to figure out his viability, but I definitely think he belongs up here. He makes pretty much anything at 160 and below a complete joke, especially with the right support, so he should be able to work at 175 just fine. I say “should” because the current floor I’m on sucks and I can’t try him out with the requisite support. Stupid Flora stages!
Raku: A great sub option in many CC comps, but I think Kren generally outperforms him in these kinds of comps. I was considering putting him in NV, but I think that the fact that he does work up here and can have a comp around him just like Kren counts for something at least.
Skriath: Skriath is probably the hero I debated putting in NV the most, but I decided that his versatility was too high to be relegated to that tier. While he’s mostly just a key component in 5 pull comps, 5 pull comps themselves are way too important to make him not at least borderline NV. He can also be used in Lucretia comps outside of 5 pull, which to me was enough to barely push him over the edge.
Conclusion: I like KT. I think that calling 70 heroes usable is a good number, and is much higher than 30 like I think most people would say with varying levels of irony. I think the meta for KT is much more interesting than in Campaign by virtue of the comps being allowed to be expensive, and if anything, what the tiers show is what is and isn’t viable in Campaign itself, proving that Ainz is only really used because he’s a cheap option and not because he’s a top 5 comp or that there is still more room for the meta to be expended upon.
That’s it for this AFK Arena Tier List 1.94.
